Traditional Building Repair

What we do

Expert diagnosis and appropriate solutions

For traditional and solid-wall buildings, where modern impermeable treatments so often make matters worse.

Damp Diagnosis & Investigation

Thorough investigation of the whole building — moisture readings, drainage, ground levels and ventilation — followed by honest advice on what is actually causing the problem.

Lime Plaster & Renders

Natural, breathable lime plasters, renders and limewash applied by hand, allowing solid walls to release moisture as they were built to do.

Ventilation Design & Install

Design and installation of appropriate ventilation for healthier homes — managing moisture at source without stripping the character of the building.

Traditional Building Repair

Sensitive repairs using appropriate materials: repointing in lime mortar, stone and brick repair, and reinstating detail lost to unsuitable modern work.

Our approach

Sensitive to old buildings

Practical, honest, tailored to your property. We begin by understanding how your building was made to work — then we recommend only what it genuinely needs.

  • A whole-building investigation before any work is specified
  • Honest advice, including when no intervention is required
  • Natural, breathable materials chosen for your walls
  • Careful, considerate work by experienced hands

Why breathable matters

Old walls need to release moisture

Solid-wall buildings were constructed without a cavity or damp-proof course. They handle water by absorbing it and letting it evaporate away again — a slow, constant exchange through lime mortar, lime plaster and permeable paint.

Cement renders, gypsum plaster, plastic paints and injected chemical treatments trap that moisture inside the wall. The damp does not disappear; it moves, rising higher, spoiling finishes and decaying timbers.

Our work restores the building's ability to breathe: correct diagnosis first, appropriate materials second, and ventilation designed to carry moisture away at source.
